TeleQuality Customer Explains How Broadband-Enabled Technologies Enhance Rural Telehealth Services at Aug. 31st Briefing in Crystal City
SAN ANTONIO, TX (Sept. 8, 2015)- U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX-23) visited TeleQuality Communications customer Vida Y Salud Health Systems in Crystal City Aug. 31st to learn more about how broadband-enabled technologies can enhance a rural healthcare provider’s ability to deliver better care to their rural communities, where 56 million Americans reside.
“We are very grateful to Rep. Hurd and his staff for taking time during his busy recess schedule to visit Vida Y Salud and witness how rural healthcare providers are truly making an impact on their communities through their life-saving tools and services including those broadband-enabled technologies,” said TeleQuality’s Director of Operations Natalie Verette. “Our customers are making a difference across rural America and it’s always a pleasure to see them receive the recognition they deserve.”
Vida Y Salud CEO Nora Tellez gave Congressman Hurd a tour of the healthcare facility and demonstrated how important broadband connectivity is for delivering 21st century healthcare.
“With the emergence of Meaningful Use standards for electronic health records, increasing storage needs and transmission of large medical imaging and data files, and further adoption of telehealth technologies, federal funding programs such as the FCC’s Universal Service Fund (USF) are becoming even more instrumental in assisting rural healthcare providers obtain the network speeds and infrastructure needed for their programs and services,” Verette said.
The USF’s Rural Healthcare Program makes $400 million available annually to help rural healthcare providers fund the difference between rural and urban connectivity costs. A participant in the Rural Healthcare Program, Vida Y Salud was able to upgrade their TeleQuality network and receive substantial funding for the increased infrastructure and speeds.
“We thank Rep. Hurd for his continued support on important telehealth and healthcare legislation such as the 21st Century Cures,” Verette said, “and for his public awareness of federal grants and funding programs that directly support rural healthcare providers in his district.”
